Yes, Greece
We stumbled on this island while visiting Athens and looking for something more quaint outside of the busy city. The island is a quick ferry ride from Piraeus, the port of Athens, and has enough infrastructure to support tourists without feeling overrun.
We know a destination wedding is a huge commitment, and while we genuinely want as many friends and family to join as possible, we recognize that it will be inaccessible to many. That’s why we’re also doing a reception in California, which we hope will be more convenient for many of you!
Oh, one other thing: we’re designating this an adults only weekend. Not because we’re planning anything inappropriate (although things don’t always go according to plan), but because that’s the vibe.
Here are the days and events we are generally planning so far, come for as much or as little as you want:
Thursday, Sept 23:
Arrive Athens, ferry to Aegina, short car transfer to Villas/Hotel, casual BBQ at the Villas.
- There are two accommodation options: we’ll have two villas next door to one another where most events will take place, and we can accommodate about half of our guests at these two properties. There are also several nearby hotels, and we’ll have arrangements with a couple at a range of price points. For the villas, we expect the total cost of accommodations including taxes and fees will be not more than approximately $1000 per room for the entire four night stay; the hotels that we’ll have blocked for you will be more or less than that, depending on the type of stay you’re looking for.
- You can rent cars on the island, but, depending on your plans, it is likely you will not need one; we will provide transposition to and from the ferry as well as to planned group events.
Friday, Sept 24:
Beach/pool day or individual island exploration, evening dinner at local beach bar.
- There are pools at each villa and the beach is a 10-15 minute walk.
- There are a variety of tours leaving from the marina, and taxis are readily available around the island (but not so much Uber/Lyft).
- We’ll have dinner at a nearby beach bar, transportation provided from the villas or hotels.
Saturday, Sept 25:
Group daytime tour, evening wedding ceremony and reception.
- We’ll have a block for an optional boat or island tour during the day, we expect this will be around $150 total per person if you’d like to join.
- We’ll return to our lodging in the late afternoon to prepare for a sunset ceremony.
- The ceremony will be at one of the Villas, shuttles will be available from the Hotel.
- Afterwards, we’ll have a dinner reception.
Sunday, Sept 26:
Recovery pool day, brunch and relax.
- We’ll host a casual recovery brunch by the pool(s) at the Villa(s).
Monday, Sept 27:
Back from whence you came!
- We’ll have a few timed shuttles to the marina, a quick ferry back to Pireus and a train to Athens airport and you’ll be back home before you know it.
